Overview: Many new online tools and technologies have emerged in recent years to support small societies' marketing efforts for their journals. This course defines what those new technologies are and how they are being deployed in association publishing environments.
Emphasis is on early trials, successes and failures, so audience members can learn from the ground up how fellow societies overcame obstacles in understanding social media opportunities, assessing potential, and financing new approaches. A variety of social media and electronic marketing examples will be discussed as models for what any society can do to market their journals. From Facebook to learning management systems, this course will show you how to strategize in this ever-changing environment, how to develop the tools you will need, and utilize the tools you already have.
Program: The program features society leaders with experience in developing journal marketing programs, using the latest online tools and technologies. Presentations and break-out sessions will be geared to modeling - from conducting market research to developing sales strategies and problem-solving to achieve strategic objectives.
Learning Objectives: By the end of the workshop, attendees will understand what online marketing tools are currently available to them, how to assess member needs, how to deploy technology to satisfy member needs and grow interest in their publications and maintain interest in membership.
